Tuesday 3 April

We had a lovely wedding anniversary day on Tortola, one of the British Virgin Islands.  We decided that a 4-year posting from London to be Governor of Tortola was quite an attractive possibility.  The morning was spent by one of the ship’s pools and then we had lunch followed by an afternoon tour of the island.  Very windy roads with very steep gradients but also beautiful with superb views across the island and to neighbouring islands, including Norman Island – the inspiration for Treasure Island – and Dead Chest, from the pirate song about Blackbeard – when they had a fall out after a successful raid and marooned some of his gang on the small island with their sea chests and a bottle of rum - hence the song 15 men on Dead Man’s Chest …..  There was the obligatory stop for refreshments - included in the tour price and it was here that Chris started his survey of the quality of rum punch offered on each of the various islands we visited.

The evening was spent in their signature steak and seafood restaurant we dressed up in our DJs for the occasion.  Very good food, but also very slow service!
