Friday 6 April

Was our last stop – at Barbados.

We liked what we saw when we last visited it, but this time we really pushed the boat out and went on a tour of the southern and central part of the island.  Before that we walked to their main cricket ground – the Kensington Oval – we couldn’t get in, as it was all closed for Good Friday - they clearly take their religion seriously in these parts.

We were able to see the West Indies team practising at the side of the ground as their test match there against Australia was starting the day after.  We also saw the plaque at the ground to mark Prince Edward's visit in February for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and Chris had an obligatory photo taken under the statue of the Barbadian hero of cricket – Sir Garfield Sobers.  We then spent some time trying to get on to the free wifi service at the cruise terminal, but without success and then we went off on our shore excursion around the island.  The views were great and we were shown when Andrew Lloyd-Webber, Simon Cowell & Co spend time over Christmas and heard of some of the extortionate property prices there.  Like Dominica, the island is very lush with things growing everywhere all the time.  There are lots of English connections there too and we really enjoyed the eastern Atlantic coast where the breakers were pounding in on to the coral reefs just below the surface - but very dangerous for swimming.
